Privacy Policy
Your collection stays on your iPhone. iDiecast has no server of its own and never receives a copy of what you record. If you turn on iCloud backup, the copy goes to your own iCloud account, where we cannot read it.
Who we are
iDiecast is operated by SRD MEDIA GROUP INC., 5-4104 Fairview St, Burlington, Ontario L7L 4Y8, Canada. For privacy questions or requests, email support@idiecast.ca. Our privacy contact is Michael Pagliaro.
What stays on your device
Your collection records, photos, notes, wishlist, orders and tracking details, prices, currencies, saved links and reviews are stored on your iPhone so the app can work. Profile information and app preferences are stored locally too. Account credentials are held in Apple’s Keychain.
We do not receive this information. There is no iDiecast account server and no sync between devices. Exports go to files you choose, in locations you control.
iCloud backup
iDiecast can keep a backup of your collection in your own iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit. It runs when the app goes to the background and when you ask for it, and it is free for everyone. The backup lives in the private part of your iCloud storage that only your Apple Account can open: we have no access to it, no key to it, and no way to see whether you have one. It counts against your iCloud storage, not ours. Each of your devices keeps its own last three backups, and you can restore any of them from the Account tab. Apple’s own privacy policy governs iCloud itself.
Restoring a backup replaces the collection on that iPhone with the copy you choose, and the app shows you what the copy contains before it does. Deleting the app does not delete your iCloud backup; you can remove it in iOS Settings under your Apple Account, iCloud, Manage Storage, iDiecast.
Signing in
Signing in is optional and creates a local profile only. Every collection feature works without it. You can sign in with Apple, or with an email address and a password; Google sign-in is not available.
With Apple, the provider handles authentication and shares an identifier, and the name and email it makes available, so the app can recognise your local profile — your Apple password is never shared with iDiecast. An email password is held only on your iPhone, in Apple’s Keychain, and is not sent anywhere. There is no iDiecast account server: signing in does not upload your collection, and it does not sync anything between devices.
When the app contacts others
iDiecast works offline apart from the features below. Each one sends only what that feature needs.
- Barcode lookup sends the scanned barcode to UPCitemdb, and may download a product image from the host named in the result.
- Currency conversion sends currency codes to Frankfurter, plus a date for historical rates. Your amounts and collection are not sent; conversion happens on your device.
- Research and shopping links open listing and tracking pages, sending whatever is contained in the link, such as search terms or a tracking number. Model research opens in the app’s own browser, which is confined to eBay, its regional marketplaces and the retailers iDiecast catalogues; carrier tracking and anything outside that list open in Safari. Results are never imported back into the app.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive only the entitlement information needed to unlock PRO, never your card details.
- Crash reports go to Sentry, a crash-reporting service, when the app crashes or a backup fails. A report carries the app version, iOS version, device model, what the app was doing in the moments before, and a random installation identifier that is not linked to you. It never carries your collection, your photos, your name or your email, and we do not use it to track you. Sentry keeps reports for thirty days.
Whenever your phone connects to any of these, that provider can see your IP address and ordinary connection information, and its own policy governs what it keeps. None of these requests sends your collection; only iCloud backup does, and only to your own account.
Photos and permissions
Photos are added through the standard iOS picker or camera, so you choose exactly what is attached. If you use Face ID or Touch ID, Apple’s system handles it and we never receive biometric data. You can change any permission in iOS Settings.
Support correspondence
If you email us, or use the in-app feedback option, we receive your email address, your message, anything you attach, and the app and iOS version. You can read the message before it sends. Your collection is not attached automatically, though a screenshot or your own description may include details you choose to share.
We use support correspondence to answer you, investigate problems and improve the app. Our support mailbox is hosted on Apple iCloud Mail with our own domain. We keep correspondence while we resolve your request and normally for up to twelve months afterwards, then remove it. We may keep specific records longer where needed for a request, dispute or legal obligation. None of this affects the collection on your device.
Your rights
Canadian privacy law gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask for a correction, and to ask us to delete it. In practice the only personal information we hold is support correspondence and crash reports, because everything else stays on your phone or in your own iCloud. Email support@idiecast.ca and we will respond.
To delete your iDiecast account, open the app and go to Account → Settings → Data & account → Delete account. That removes your local account and the collection on that iPhone. It does not delete your Apple Account; to remove iDiecast’s Sign in with Apple connection, go to iOS Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple.
Deleting the app also erases the collection on that iPhone, so export it or make sure it is backed up first if you want to keep it. Your iCloud backup, if you have one, is removed separately in iOS Settings as described above.
Children
iDiecast is a general-audience collection tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and its date. Material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
